Creative Worker requires a licensed sponsor, an eligible temporary role and a valid Certificate of Sponsorship.
Creative mobility
The engagement now.
The career beyond it.
Creative Worker and Global Talent solve different problems. One supports defined sponsored work. The other tests individual standing and can provide independent permission and settlement. The route map must connect the production timetable to the person's evidence and longer UK plan.
Review the position ↗︎Global Talent ordinarily requires endorsement under the correct arts, design, film, technology or research pathway, unless a listed prize applies.
Creative Worker is not barred from an in-country Global Talent application, but the endorsement and visa requirements remain separate.
Creative Worker does not lead to settlement and its time does not count towards the Global Talent 3-year or 5-year period.
Route architecture
Separate permission to work from proof of standing.
The engagement comes first.
The activity, payer, dates, locations and contractual structure determine whether the person is a visitor, a sponsored Creative Worker or needs another route.
Sponsorship proves a role.
A Certificate of Sponsorship records the eligible engagement. It does not prove that the individual is a leader or potential leader for Global Talent.
Recognition must be attributable.
Credits, awards, reviews and outcomes assist only where they identify the applicant's own work and explain why it matters within the relevant field.
Timing has a legal cost.
Remaining sponsored can preserve an immediate opportunity. Delaying a mature Global Talent case postpones work freedom and the start of the qualifying settlement period.
Creative mobility plan
Resolve the production and the pathway in the right order.
The route should be selected before contracts and travel are fixed. The longer strategy should then preserve genuine evidence without treating the UK engagement as an automatic endorsement case.
- 01Classify the activity
Identify the creative work, UK payer, duration, work locations and whether the facts fit visitor permission or sponsored employment.
- 02Control sponsorship
Confirm the sponsor, Certificate of Sponsorship, applicable code or unique-contribution basis, pay, maintenance and right-to-work process.
- 03Audit the itinerary
Test the 3-month concession, ETA, border, eGate, Ireland, multiple engagements and re-entry position before travel.
- 04Select the Global Talent field
Map the actual body of work to the correct pathway and decide whether Talent, Promise or a qualifying prestigious prize is available.
- 05Build the evidence matrix
Connect every proposition to independent recognition, personal attribution, measurable impact and an admissible document.
- 06Choose the decision date
Balance current sponsor security against evidence readiness, independent work, family timing and the applicable settlement period.
The route map
Start with the legal function required.
Short work, sponsored work and independent talent each have a distinct legal gateway. Duration and reputation alone do not select the route.

Direct answers. Fact-specific consequences.
01What is the difference between Creative Worker and Global Talent?+
Creative Worker is a sponsored temporary route for an eligible creative engagement. Global Talent is an unsponsored route based on a qualifying prize or field-specific endorsement and can lead to settlement.
02Can a Creative Worker switch to Global Talent?+
Potentially. Creative Worker is not excluded from an in-country Global Talent application, but the person must independently qualify, obtain any required endorsement and apply validly before current permission expires.
03Does Creative Worker lead to settlement?+
No. Creative Worker is not a settlement route, and its time is not listed as qualifying time towards Global Talent settlement.
04Can a Global Talent holder work for several organisations?+
Yes. Global Talent is not tied to 1 sponsor and ordinarily permits employment, self-employment and company-director activity, subject to the conditions of the grant.
05Does a UK production prove Global Talent eligibility?+
No. It may generate relevant evidence, but the Global Talent case must still prove field-specific recognition, attribution and impact. A contract or Certificate of Sponsorship proves work, not exceptional standing.
06Is Exceptional Promise available for film and television?+
No. The film and television pathway assessed by Pact is confined to Exceptional Talent. Other arts and culture pathways must be checked separately.
