Global Talent recommendation letters: standing, knowledge and distinct evidence
A recommendation letter is evidence from a particular qualified voice. Three versions of the same praise do not establish three distinct reasons to endorse an applicant.

A practical guide to selecting Global Talent recommenders and producing field-specific letters that address recognition, contribution and UK plans.
01
Select recommenders against the field rules.
The number, standing, location and relationship requirements differ between pathways. Digital technology generally requires three established experts; arts pathways specify the type and location of organisations or individuals who may recommend.
A prestigious name is not enough if the writer cannot credibly explain the applicant's work.
02
Make knowledge of the applicant verifiable.
Each writer should explain how they know the applicant, the work they observed and why their own experience allows them to assess it. Generic biography and praise consume space without proving the criterion.
Different recommenders should address different achievements, perspectives and future contribution while remaining consistent with the central case.
03
Address the required future proposition.
Letters often need to explain the applicant's expected contribution to the UK and future plans, not only past success. That account should align with the CV, evidence and application narrative.
Writers should retain their own voice and judgment. Accurate briefing is different from manufacturing evidence.

Questions
Points that commonly alter the answer.
01Can the same template be used for all three letters?+
The letters should be authentic to each writer and provide distinct, case-specific evidence. Repetitive wording can weaken their value.
02Must recommenders be based in the UK?+
The answer depends on the endorsing pathway. Some arts pathways require at least one UK organisation; other routes apply different rules.
03Can a current manager recommend the applicant?+
Potentially, depending on the pathway and the writer's standing and knowledge, but the complete recommender set should provide credible and sufficiently independent evidence.
