How to distinguish an outdated UKVI account, an incorrect eVisa record and an access problem before choosing the official correction route.
01
Classify what is wrong before reporting it.
Use the account-update service for changed passport, contact and personal details. Use the eVisa error service where the digital record shows the wrong immigration status or date of birth, where a technical error prevents viewing it, or where a share code cannot be generated.
A sign-in problem may instead require account recovery. The evidence and urgency differ, so record exactly what the service shows rather than describing every difficulty as a missing eVisa.
02
Preserve the decision record.
Keep the grant email or decision notice, the identity document used in the application, screenshots showing the discrepancy and any reference generated by the correction process. Record the date the problem was first identified and any imminent work, tenancy or travel consequence.
The aim is to show the correct status and the inconsistency without asking an update service to vary the substance of the immigration decision.
03
Correction time should shape the practical response.
UKVI aims to fix most reported eVisa issues within five working days and says complex matters can take up to fifteen working days. That is an operational target, not a guaranteed resolution date.
Where a statutory deadline, right-to-work decision or imminent journey is involved, the underlying immigration position and the available official evidence should be reviewed separately from the technical correction request.
