The endorsement letter must be issued by an approved or qualifying legacy endorsing body, remain valid and ordinarily be no more than 3 months old when the immigration application is made.
UK Innovator Founder
A founder route.
Decided by the business.
The route asks whether an original venture is innovative, viable and scalable, and whether the applicant is genuinely capable of building it. Endorsement is the legal gateway; commercial coherence is what makes the case credible.
Review the position ↗
A strong application connects 3 propositions: the venture offers something meaningfully different, it can be executed with the resources available and it has credible potential for structured growth.
These are cumulative requirements. A persuasive description of innovation cannot cure an unworkable delivery model or unsupported growth proposition.
The applicant must have generated or significantly contributed to the idea and hold a key day-to-day role in delivering the business plan.
Settlement is possible after 3 qualifying years, but only with a further endorsement and at least 2 specified business achievements.
The endorsement case
The business must survive the adjectives.
Innovation must be located in the market.
The question is not whether the proposition uses technology or new language. It is what the business does differently, against which existing alternatives, for which customer and with what defensible advantage.
Viability begins with the founder.
Skills, experience, market understanding, capital, time and operating capacity must make the proposed execution credible. A plan is not viable merely because the market opportunity is large.
Scalability requires an operating mechanism.
Growth into national and international markets should follow from distribution, product architecture, economics, team and funding. Forecasts without a mechanism expose rather than strengthen the case.
Settlement should influence the first plan.
The 3-year outcome depends on measurable trading and business achievements. The initial model, milestones and record-keeping should be capable of producing that evidence if the venture succeeds.
Evidence architecture
Build the case in the order an investor would test it.
The legal criteria and commercial proposition should be developed together. Endorsement material is strongest where each assertion is capable of being independently tested.

Connected decisions
The route changes with the stage of the venture.
A new endorsement, continuation application, switch from Graduate permission and settlement application each require a different evidential focus.
Initial endorsement strategy
Test the idea, founder contribution and innovation, viability and scalability evidence before the final business plan is fixed.

Direct answers. Fact-specific consequences.
01What makes a business innovative for Innovator Founder?+
The Rules require a genuine, original business plan meeting new or existing market needs or creating a competitive advantage. The analysis should identify the precise innovation, the relevant market baseline and why the distinction is commercially meaningful.
02Is a minimum investment required?+
The route does not prescribe one universal minimum investment figure. Viability nevertheless requires a realistic financial plan and access to resources sufficient for the particular venture and its proposed timetable.
03Can an applicant join an existing business?+
Simply investing in or joining an established company is not enough. The applicant must meet the applicable new or same business requirements and demonstrate the required contribution, role and endorsement.
04Can a Student or Graduate switch to Innovator Founder?+
A Graduate can potentially switch from within the UK. A Student is subject to course-completion or doctoral-study conditions. Endorsement and immigration timing should be coordinated before the present permission expires.
05Can an Innovator Founder work outside the endorsed business?+
The published Rules permit other employment at or above RQF level 3, subject to the detailed conditions. They restrict arrangements which amount to supplying the founder’s labour to another business through the endorsed company.
06How does Innovator Founder lead to settlement?+
The route can lead to settlement after at least 3 qualifying years as an Innovator Founder. The business must satisfy the active, trading, sustainable and founder-role requirements and meet at least 2 of the specified achievement criteria.
