Different settlement routes treat qualifying residence, combinations of permission and dependant time differently. A chronology should be constructed from grants, applications, travel and any gaps rather than assuming that time physically in the UK is sufficient.
Absence rules can depend on the route and period being assessed. Travel records, work reasons and exceptional circumstances should be reconstructed well before the intended application date.
Some routes require continuing sponsorship, salary, endorsement or relationship evidence. Settlement is not simply a historic residence test; current eligibility and suitability remain important.
